What to bring and wear:

  • Participants must be able to walk comfortably on uneven ground.
  • Participants also bring your portable artmaking kit to use during the day - Art Journal & resources; drawing mark-making materials; scissors; stanley knife & cutting mat for the foam printing plates; specialty printing papers (optional); folder to carry your prints.
  • Participants please bring warm clothes, a hat, sunscreen, closed-in shoes, water and lunch/snacks, mobile phone or mobile device. Avid photographers can bring cameras and tripods. 
  • NB. it can be quite cool on the mountain and the venue is not airconditioned.

Council will provide:

  • Tea & coffee all day & morning tea
  • Relief printing equipment and materials including A4 foam plate per participant and A4 printing papers

During this workshop, participants must  be able to walk comfortably on uneven ground, as you will:

  • Take a field visit to a local rainforest with ecologist Dr Melinda Laidlaw to learn field research, documentation, and identification skills.
  • Develop basic skills of data recording, flora identification keys and drawing flora specimens provided.
  • Learn how environmental data can be explored artistically with Donna Davis through drawing and print-based works and how data is used as an entry point for inspiration in the creative process.

Donna Davis Scenic Rim Artists-in-Residence program is presented in association with her exhibition, When a Tree Falls, on show at The Centre Beaudesert as part of Life in Focus exhibition, from 11 June to 13 August 2022. 

This Artist-in-Residence program is proudly presented by Scenic Rim Regional Council and supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), a partnership between the Queensland Government and Scenic Rim Regional Council to support local arts and culture in Regional Queensland.
