ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Reimagine textiles and discarded materials and explore the wonderful world of upcycling in which everything old is new again.
This colourful and engaging exhibition features hand-crafted pieces by Southside Upcycling Stitchers (SUS) group members along with items made by members of the local community.
SUS has become part of the fabric of the Logan community through regular get-togethers and by sharing ideas, supporting each other, attending community events and creating interesting and unique works of art that are entirely made of repurposed materials. We invite the Scenic Rim community to follow their lead!
A series of artist-led workshops held in 2023 in the Scenic Rim utilised discarded textiles and other materials destined for landfill to create items that might be found in a garden. This has formed a sculptural installation created entirely by community - children and adults - as a component of the exhibition. These workshops were funded through the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), a partnership between the Queensland Government and Scenic Rim Regional Council, to support local arts and culture in Regional Queensland. |

As a community, we have become acutely aware of our ‘waste footprint’ on the world. Reimagining the possibility for what we all discard every day into something beautiful, interesting, and potentially useful inspires our shared vision for a better world, globally and locally.
This is an opportunity to educate and build awareness of our shared environmental responsibility.
It is also an invitation to all to explore the possibilities and inspiration for how we can, as a community, reduce our reliance on landfill through the reuse of materials and textiles and bring new life and purpose through creativity to what is often discarded - repurposing, renewing and reimagining! SUS meet monthly in Beenleigh. More info SUS facebook
