An exhibition of new collaborative works by Therese Flynn-Clarke and Sally MacKinnon.
Join Therese and Sally and members of Centacare's Scenic Seniors exhibition during the Exhibition Launch on Saturday 24 July 2021 at 10.30am. Event includes artists talks and exhibition tours. This is a COVID-safe event - RSVP essential.
The resilience and fragility of a cocoon suspended on a twig, yet ‘hanging on’ is a strong symbol for us as a community. A creature remains in their cocoon, growing and developing until ready to enter the world - much like a woman ‘growing a baby’. Sometimes we need to cocoon and protect ourselves until we are ready to ’re-enter’ our lives.
2020 was a time of great change, trauma for some and difficulties for many. Even though at times we may be hanging on by a thread, there is a great deal of strength in that thread, and collectively as a community even more strength.

Therese Flynn-Clarke's art practice assists her in difficult times through creating and spending time in nature. One of the components in this exhibition will include a series of works produced as a result of time spent in nature for inspiration and healing. 2020 saw her literally stitching away the anxiety of life - almost as a form of meditation. Stitching fabric and paper by hand and machine, the things she observed that she was part of everyday. Her garden, the birds and trees, and nature as she travelled to and from work. Using seedpods and shells collected in past travels, Therese made wearable art that linked her to places she could no longer visit. |

Therese chose to collaborate with Sally MacKinnon, a renowned poet, author and a woman of great strength and wisdom. Sally makes meaning of life through writing nature-based poetry, short stories and Journaling...weaving words in response to life as it unfolds.
"Sally's evocative poetry has inspired my art and her poems have conversed with my creations. Writing and artmaking can be a meditative and transformative process especially when creating with others as a means of building community wellbeing and resilience. There is strength in community," says Therese Flynn-Clarke.
Also on show is Scenic Seniors: Life Stories exhibition developed by Centacare.
