The Riverside Guitar Ensemble is resident at the Queensland Conservatorium and brings together Queensland’s finest young professional guitarists with current guitar students from the Conservatorium guitar department.

The ensemble has performed extensively in South-East Queensland and continues to challenge the boundaries of repertoire for this unique ensemble combination. It is rare and challenging for a guitar ensemble of this size to perform unconducted, making it function much like a chamber orchestra and resulting in a very strong sense of communication amongst all members and they’re coming to Boonah.

This year the ensemble’s premiere recording of “Ginastera’s Dream” by Brazilian composer Chrystian Dozza has been internationally released on Dozza’s new CD. The ensemble has also appeared alongside the internationally acclaimed ZOO Guitar Duo (Holland) and continues to premiere and commission new works.

Directed by internationally acclaimed guitarist Karin Schaupp, who, incidentally, performed in Boonah two years ago to great acclaim, the Riverside Guitar Ensemble , like the rest of the performing arts groups throughout Australia has had its performance scheduling thrown into chaos by the current pandemic. However, the great will to perform predominates and Boonah is indeed fortunate to have this fantastic group available on Saturday 7th November.

Cultural Foundation President, Clive Beaton said that as so many people of all ages in the community play guitar, this special concert with 16 guitarists onstage and working together will have enormous appeal to every one of those aspiring guitarists in the community.
